The Cloud Bed
Lila climbed the soft white stairs. Wisp floated up beside her. Wisp glowed a little brighter. Warm light lay on the top step. Lila sat down in the light. The light was soft and warm. She wiggled her toes. Up here the sky was quiet.
A small grey bird landed there too. The bird sat in the warm light. Lila wanted the warm light too. The step was small. The light was small. Only one could sit. Lila looked at Wisp. Wisp glowed brighter. Then Lila had an idea.
Lila pulled soft cloud out of the air. She patted it into a little bed. Pat the cloud soft. Pat it round. The bed wobbled. The bed slumped. The cloud came apart in her hands. Bits drifted away like feathers. Lila laughed.
Lila gathered more cloud. She pressed it slow this time. Wisp leaned down and held it flat. Pat the cloud soft. Pat it round. The bed stayed. It was wide and white. It was wide enough for two. Lila pushed it into the warm light.
Lila set the bed in the light. She made a dip on one side. She made a dip on the other side. One dip for the bird. One dip for Lila. The bird hopped in. The bird tucked its feet in. It was soft underneath.
Lila lay down beside the bird. The bird did not fly away. Wisp floated over them both. Wisp glowed soft and low. Pat the cloud soft. Pat it round. Lila's eyes felt heavy. The sky was quiet. Lila yawned.
The bird breathed. Lila breathed. Wisp glowed, then dimmed. In. Out. In. Out. The cloud bed rose a little. The cloud bed fell a little. Warm. Slow. Still. Lila closed her eyes. Somewhere soft, the sky breathed too.
