Wake Up Slow, Little Valley
"Is everyone asleep?" Mila asked. Mo blinked, slow and kind. The ferns did not move. The big dinosaurs lay still. Warm rain went drip, drip, drip. Mila patted Mo's shell. Then she hummed a small hum. Hum, hum, hum, went Mila. The valley slept on.
A fern curled up by her foot. Mila hummed to the sleepy fern. Hum, hum, hum. The fern opened one green hand. Mo hummed too, low and slow. "Wake up slow, little valley, wake up slow." Drip, drip, drip, went the rain. Mila smiled.
Mila walked to a sleeping dinosaur. It was long and green and big. She hummed beside its warm side. Hum, hum, hum. The dinosaur opened one round eye. It made a soft, low sound. Mo waited. Mila waited. The rain went drip, drip, drip.
Big footprints held little pools of rain. Mila hummed over every pool. Hum, hum, hum. Small frogs woke up and blinked. Plip, went one frog. Plip, plip, plip. Mo watched from the warm wet grass. "Wake up slow, little valley, wake up slow."
One flower stayed shut up tight. Mila did not pull it. She sat down close to Mo. She hummed her small hum again. Hum, hum, hum. The flower opened, slow, slow, slow. Inside was a little yellow light. It glowed like a tiny lamp.
The valley was awake now. Ferns swayed. Frogs sang plip, plip, plip. The big dinosaurs hummed back at Mila. Hum, hum, hum, went the whole valley. Mila leaned on Mo's warm shell. Her eyes went slow, slow, slow. Rain went drip, drip, drip.
Mila yawned. Mo did not hurry. "Wake up slow, little valley, wake up slow," she whispered. The rain stopped. The frogs went quiet. The flower closed, slow and soft. Its little yellow light went out. Mila slept beside Mo, warm in the dark.
